The EDventure programme puts together opportunities made available to us by external organisations. Step out of your comfort zone and visit higher education institutes, participate in hands-on workshops and talk to professors and current university students. Through this, you will get a clearer picture of the prospective university you would like to enter as well as a better sense of which prospective course of study you would like to pursue in the future.
1/ Save the date
Ensure that you are able to commit for the program you have signed up for. Seek excuse from lessons or CCA if you need to.
2/ Put on your best behaviour
Every action by you will reflect well / not so well on the school.
3/ Go with an open mind
Be proactive, ask questions, take photos so that you are able to make full use of the opportunity given.
4/ Be safe
Activities conducted by the external organiser might be outdoors, in a laboratory or have some degree of physical exertion, so be alert and protect yourself.

In this workshop, they will be giving a brief historic overview of AI technology, along with some of the current-day applications and challenges that AI researchers are currently facing. Where did the term AI come from? What were some of the breakthroughs made by researchers in the 1950s, and why did we experience so called `AI Winters’? These are some of the questions that they will be exploring.
Students will then go through some basic code in a tutorial-like Google Colab notebook and learn how image data can be loaded in Python. The resulting images are used to train a convolutional neural network in Keras for cat versus dog image classification. At the end of it, students can upload their own images, and the trained model will tell them if it is a cat or a dog.

In this workshop, they will provide an overview of the Robot Operating System (ROS), an open-source robotics middleware. ROS is a widely used software framework for integrating heterogeneous sensors and hardware through low-level device control, message passing between processes and package management. The fundamentals of ROS including, topics, nodes and messages will be taught through understanding of visualization and command-line tools. A hands-on interfacing experience will be provided to the participants with a small-scale autonomous vehicle.

Blockchain is a technology that you cannot explain it in any way without some kind of technical term (buzzword) that gets in the way of understanding it. This workshop is structured into getting students blockchain conversant and finally confident.

NUS Food Science and Technology (FST) would like to invite all students to their annual Outreach Programme.
This year’s Outreach Programme is themed “A Taste of FST”, which aims to introduce to prospective students what our course entails and the possible pathways in the food industry upon graduation from FST.
FST aids in the production, preservation, processing, packaging, distribution and use of safe, nutritious, wholesome food. FST can operate and design quality assurance systems, discover new food sources, and enforce government regulations with regards to food safety. Food Scientists and Technologists usually work in the relevant companies, government agencies or research establishments, to help in product development via food science research. FST also opens gates to other career choices like teaching and health-related businesses.
Please note that sign-ups will be on a first-come-first-serve basis and we will only be accepting 50 participants due to COVID-19 restrictions. Students can sign up individually or as groups of 5. Registration fee is priced at $15 per pax but those who sign up as a group of 5, registration fee will be at a discounted price of $14 per pax. Regardless of individual or group sign-ups, all students who are interested to attend the event would have to fill in the registration form. Sign-ups will close on 28th December 2359.
