Brief description

The Foundations of Teaching for Learning programme is for anyone who is teaching, or who would like to teach, in any subject and any context - be it at school, at home or in the workplace. It is about reflection on personal and professional development as a teacher. Through reflection and portfolio development, we know more about why we want to be teachers and enhance knowledge, as well as understanding of how to promote learning.

This course mainly shares about how to be an effective teacher. I learned that I need to accommodate the individuals that we are teaching. Everyone has their own learning methods. There will be definitely huge differences between learning styles in different education stage, as well as for teaching methods. This gives me more insights about how to be a teacher but more than that, how to be a good teacher and teach my students effectively. I get to think about my ability and who I am going to teach in the future. I would recommend this course to my peers as this course also provides ways to create positive teaching environment. By recalling my previous teaching experience, I find that there is still more for me to improve on to make the lesson more interesting. This is called “reflective practice”. However, this course is theory-based. It does not include teachers’ sharing on their experiences such as like how they conduct lessons effectively, the methods they use to attract students’ attention in lessons as well as some difficulties they face during lessons and how they solve it. There is no practical teaching experience. Hence, I would like to give the course a rating 7/10.
